Welcome to the first 5th Ranger Battalion public newsletter. This newsletter will be published monthly. If you have any comments or feedback about our newsletter, please get in touch with one of the Combat Correspondents in the unit.
If you would like to post a comment or suggestion about the newsletter, please post in the following thread.
Pubber Events
The Pubbers Events are a series of organized activities that occur once a week, designed to allow members of the 5th and Pubbers to play in a more organized setting. Pubbers are individuals who are not in the 5th Ranger Battalion but play regularly on 5th servers, who are team players, fun to game with, and respectful to the unit. These events happen every Monday from 7pm to 9pm EDT. We usually like to start early to try and get people to join up on the server so when 7pm comes we have large teams to run the events with.
Any member of the 5th and Pubbers are allowed to join. To be considered a "Pubber", an individual needs someone within the 5th to vouch for them. Anyone in the 5th who says someone is active, fun, a team player and respectful will be added to the list of people allowed to see the Pubbers Forum, which details information on Pubbers. There are no sign ups for each event. It runs on a first come, first served basis. It is not rare that the event becomes completely full so it is strongly suggested everyone arrive early to have an excellent start to each event.
There are a wide series of game types, some of which are common and known to anyone who games while others are created by 5th Members and played only within the unit and for Pubbers Events.
I you would like to join us for the Pubbers Events, please contact a member of the 5th or post on our forums.
Current Months Pubber Events
The next Pubbers Event will be on Monday, July 13th, 2009. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. This Pubber Event will be an organized deathmatch on the dod_stug map.
The current rules of this event are as follows:
* Squad Leaders will be chosen at the start. Squad leaders will choose their squads and then split off to their respective teams. Weapons will be assigned and it is up to the squad leader to decide who gets what weapon
* The winning team will be the whoever has captured all the flags the most (Capouts). In the event of a tie, the team with the most points next to capouts.
* If a map is chosen where there are no points for some flags, the tiebreaker will be most overall kills on each team.
* If you join the server after teams have been picked and we have begun the rounds, please stay in spec and ask for a team. This is done my using team chat to say "@ Team Please" without the quotations. You will know if it worked when you can't see your message, meaning only admins can see it. You will be told which team to join and then you may fall in, where it's up to the squad leader to tell you where to go and what to use/do.
* Listen and obey your squad leader. This is their chance to lead a team and you should show them respect and follow their orders.
* All weapon pick ups are allowed.
* Round will last for 40 minutes. Both teams will be able to play on opposing sides (Allies and Axis). After two 40 minute rounds, a winner will be determined.
Please join us tonight as this will be an exciting event.

Pubber Events In June
We ran four successfull Pubber Events for the month of June. We would like to thank everyone who participated in these events.
Pubbers Event for Week 5 was held on Monday, June 8th, 2009. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The map for this event was dod_longestday.
The 5th Ranger Battalion ran an assault type event during this event. The axis were entrenched into their stronghold while the allies assaulted their base.
The axis were always on defense while the allies tried to cap out the map. The event had fast paced action and lots of teamwork and coordination on both sides.
The squad leaders for this event were T/5 Estell (of the 5th Ranger Battalion) versus Commissar Undead Rubber Spoon (a respected long time pubber of the 5th).
The match went back and forth and it was a close one. Commissar Undead Rubber Spoon's team also tied the game at the last moment; however, T/5 Estell's team held on to win out the last round and the match. The final score for this event was 4 to 2 making T/5 Estell's team the winners.
Pubbers Event for Week 6 was held on Monday, June 15th, 2009. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The map for this event was Breugel_b8.
The 5th Ranger Battalion ran an organized deathmatch type event during this event. Both the allies and axis tried to cap out the map to win the round.
Both sides were led by members of the 5th Ranger Battalion. The squad leaders for this event were T/Sgt. Mills versus PFC W.Lee.
The match unfortunately was quite one sided as T/Sgt. Mills team demonstrated excellent coordination and communication. T/Sgt Mills team had an early start and help onto it to finish out the map on top. PFC W.Lee's team finnally deciphered T/Sgt. Mills' teams jaugneraut attack towards the end of the event; however, PFC W.Lee's team was never able to capitalize the opportunatey. The final score was 23 caps to 0 caps.
The 5th Ranger Battalion would like to recognize the following people was the Most Valuable Players for this event.
From T/Sgt Mills' team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVPs:
T/Sgt Mills - 5th Ranger Battalion
DNS Sauer monkey - 5th Pubber
From PFC W.Lee's team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVP:
Business Major - 5th Pubber
We would like to congratulate these MVPs and recognize them for their skill in the Week 6 event.
Pubbers Event for Week 7 was held on Monday, June 22th, 2009. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The map for this event was dod_crash.
The 5th Ranger Battalion ran an organized deathmatch type event during this event. Both the allies and axis tried to cap out the map to win the round.
This map was extremely hectic as there were a lot of close quarter combat opportuneties. There were also a lot of grenades and shock attacks going on within this map.
The squad leaders for this event were PFC Garlow (of the 5th Ranger Battalion) versus Callisto (a respected long time pubber of the 5th).
The match went back and forth and it was a close one. Round 1 ended with Callisto's team being up 6 to 0. PFC Garlow's team worked hard to come back from this deficit in round 2. Callisto's team scored one more cap towards the start of round 2. PFC Garlow's team however didn't quit and came back and scored 7 caps throughout round 2 with 5 minutes left.
Garlow's team was looking for the win and with 1 extra minute left of gameplay on the clock, they scored their 8th cap.
Callisto's team however was not out for the count. They had 1 minute to score a cap to push the event to a tie breaker.
Callisto's team did a fantastic job and scored their final cap with a few seconds left on the clock.
When the event was over, everyone was anxiously awaiting the final tally from the judges. When the smoke settled, PFC Garlow's team won with 58 points versus 57 points.
The 5th Ranger Battalion would like to recognize the following people was the Most Valuable Players for this event.
From Callisto's team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVPs:
UCR-grad Commissar - Round 1 MVP
Commissar Undead Rubber Spoon - Round 2 MVP
From PFC Garlow's team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVP:
|DNS|Sauer_monkey - Round 1 MVP
[AACUsers] STIMMTY - Round 2 MVP
We would like to congratulate these MVPs and recognize them for their skill in the Week 7 event.
The final Pubber Event for the month of June was held on Monday, June 29th, 2009. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The map for this event was hellshighway.
The 5th Ranger Battalion ran an organized flagpush type event during this event. Both the allies and axis tried to cap out the map to win the round.
Flagpush is similar to deathmatch, however it differs because although everyone has unlimited respawns they cannot go straight into battle right away. If you die, you have to wait until the reinforcements timer is met. Once your side is awarded reinforcements, then and only then can members push and attack.
Both sides were led by members of the 5th Ranger Battalion. The squad leaders for this event were S/Sgt. Collins versus Pfc. Sundberg.
This event presented a new gametype with intense action. During the first round, members and pubbers were learning the new gameplay type. As the match continued, the action started to get intense.
The second round was extremely heated and close. This map presented plenty of good rushes and planned attacks despite the hectic fight. The buildings were key points for both sides as they advanced and tried to cap out the map.
The final score for this event was 3 cap outs to 2 cap outs with PFC Sundberg defeating S/Sgt Collins' team.
The 5th Ranger Battalion would like to recognize the following people was the Most Valuable Players for this event.
From S/Sgt Collins' team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVPs:
S/Sgt. Collins
Roberts
From PFC Sundberg's team, the Event Commity has chosen the following MVP:
Sgt. Ess
Meteora
We would like to congratulate these MVPs and recognize them for their skill in the Week 6 event.

D.Ward. We're a family. We help each other through hard times. I can't tell you how many friends I've made and how many times those friends have been around to help me. Stick around. Get to know us. This unit is so much more than just a group of people who play a game together. We're our own support group. I ask you to give us a chance. Whether you choose to stay or not, we'll always be here if you want someone to share your burdens. Everybody can't go through everything alone, and I will personally guarantee that you wont. Please don't make any hasty decisions before you have a chance to see how much support is available to you, and before we have a chance to show you.
