The 75th Ranger Battalion is a Realism Unit for Day of Defeat:Source & Battlefield Bad Company 2. We are not just your average clan. In fact, if you call us a clan, our members will be very quick to correct you. We prefer to refer to ourselves as a "unit." Our intention is to offer a different and more involving experience to those who join our ranks.
Being a realism unit means that we attempt to run our group as close as possible to how a real army unit functions. We make use of a rank system, a chain of command, weapon restrictions, and realistic tactics when we play. We also play a very specific style of game-play called "Realism." (See the FAQ section).
You are going to be held to a higher standard of maturity and activity in our unit. You will need to work together with others and be willing to follow orders from your superiors. This unit is not about being "1337." We accept members of all skill levels, and we do not promote on the basis of skill. Our goal is instead to create an online community of people you can not only play with, but respect and enjoy. We currently have around 50 members and are continuing to grow.
We accept a new class of recruits twice every month. So once you apply, you will only be waiting a bit before the next class becomes members. This may seem like a long wait, but it's best for us because we can evaluate you during that time, and we use a structured training program.
If you apply, stay active on the servers, forums and vent, and are mature, you'll almost certainly be accepted.
Once you are accepted, you will begin as a new recruit, with the rank of Private. You will spend 1 month in Basic Combat Training learning about tactics and how the unit works. You do this by attending our weekly drills. There are 2 drills a week, for a total of 8 drills. You need to attend 4 in order to graduate.
Drill Times are: 8 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific (Thursdays and Sundays)
After you graduate, you become a full member of the unit; you will have a Fireteam Leader who is your immediate superior, and you will be able to participate in matches against other realism units and gaming communities, and participate in many more activities. There is always something to do in the 75th. You should read through the FAQ section below for some more information on these matters.
If you are looking for a bit more serious, team-oriented gaming experience, the 75th is for you.

We hold "Public Realism" events regularly which are open to anyone. Announcements regarding one are usually posted a few weeks in advance in the announcements area of our forums.

That depends. We accept a new class of recruits every two weeks. This means that depending upon when in the process you apply, you could be waiting the full two weeks or only a few days. We're sorry if this seems like a long wait, but it's easier for us to train people in large groups. Also, after someone sends in an application, we expect them to be active on our servers, forums and vent. This gives us the opportunity to observe you and make sure you have the proper interest and maturity to make it in the 75th.

Drills focus on training you as a rifleman for realism matches. This means that you will learn skills with all weapons, but also you will learn about realism strategy, and how to work together as a team. Example drills range from basic marksmanship to clearing and securing buildings.

Being in the 75th is not all about skill. Some of our lowest ranking members are better shots than some of our higher-ranking ones. As mentioned above, a big part of drills is teaching you how to work as a team, and apply skills to realism game-play. A higher ranking member may not necessarily have the fastest reflexes, but he can lead a team to victory and out-think you. Being in BCT also helps you get to know other members of the unit and gets you used to how our unit works.

We try to organize our unit the way a real army unit is organized. While we're playing on the server you rarely see the full regiment or even a full squad together. But when you've got questions and are participating in activities, you often are dealing with the people in your immediate group.
We're the 75th Ranger Battalion. We have a Regimental Commanding Officer, Capt. Hamel. The Regiment is broken down into Battalions & then into Companies. Each Company is broken down into Platoons. Each Platoon is broken down into squads. Each squad consists of a Squad Leader (SL), severals Fireteams each with a Fireteam Leader, and a group of privates who are under the FTL's command. The FTLs report to the SLs, Sls report to the leaders of the platoon, the Platoon Leaders to the Company Commanders, and so forth. This structure is called the Chain of Command. For a better picture of how the unit is organized, see our Roster page.

We use a rank system consistent with that used by the US Army. The lowest ranks are the Privates and the Privates First Class (PFC's). Corporals (CPL), and the various grades of Sergeant (SGT) are non-commisioned officers (NCOs). Lieutenants, Captains, Majors and Colonels are officers. NCOs and Officers run the unit and issue the orders. The privates participate and follow those orders.

Our advice: Graduate BCT first. Being promoted isn't going to come easy to everyone. While we have over 50 members, 70-80% of them are privates. Going higher in rank and becoming an NCO or Officer means that you'll have to put in extra work to help run the unit. It also means you'll need to be a good leader, who can help others and treat them with respect, but also be able to stop the trouble-makers. We only promote the best of the best, so you will really need to stand out. Rank is a badge of respect and responsibility. If you're only interested in the title, or bossing people around, the rank isn't for you. Most of our current officers took over a year to reach their current ranks. Enjoy the ride, whether you move up the chain or not, there are a lot of things to do while in the 75th.

Weapon restrictions are used during matchs & realism play. We use weapon restrictions because they're more realistic. Everyone in an army unit isn't a Sniper. Also, being forced to use a weapon makes you better with it. As most of the players in realism matches are riflemen, knowing how to use the weapon is essential. You are allowed to use whatever weapons you want if you play on the public servers.

|
As mentioned, during realism matches we restrict the use of weapons. We usually ask for volunteers and try to give everyone a chance at different weapons for at least a round or two. Otherwise you may use what ever weapons you so choose while playing on the public servers.

There is a certain seriousness to how we run things. While you're at drills, you're there to learn, not just goof around. We also expect people to respect each other, and always listen to those higher in rank. We also try to keep things organized and not waste people's time.
At the same time, we do enjoy goofing around. In addition to drills and weekend realism, we also organize entirely silly events. We also have a Ventrilo server where our members chat about pretty much everything. Our members tend to enjoy the realism, but also the community-like atmosphere that develops.

We do have some bare minimum standards of activity. As mentioned above, you'll need to come to at least 4/8 of your BCT drills. Other than that, we expect you to play on our public or private servers at least twice a week. We also would like you to show up on the weekends for "weekend realism" for at least an hour or two, hopefully every week.
Beyond that, how much time you dedicate is really up to you. We have a ton of events and activities going on in the Unit at any time. These range from skill competitions to matches to chats on our Ventrilo server. Every day there is an opportunity to play on our pub, get on Vent, play on our private server, or do something else.
We are of course most interested in the people who want to dedicate the most time and become a big part of the unit. Being promoted into command positions also requires some extra free time.
However, we obviously don't expect you to spend your life in front of a computer. None of us in the unit do. If you can meet our minimum standards and still want to participate there is a place for you. We have members who are graduate students, people with full-time jobs and families, retired military personel and etc.
In the end, this unit is really what you make of it.
